A first work placement experience makes you doubt your choice of studies.
After a first four-month course, you’re no longer sure you’ve made the right choice. Higher education… it wasn’t really the image you’d made of it.
You’re lost, you’re thinking of giving up…
What can you do?
- Talk to people you trust to help you understand what’s going on: your teachers, the staff at the Success Support Service or the person in charge of the Rebond course at the HEAJ (ludivine.brocca@heaj.be).
- Think about how best to make the most of the rest of the academic year. As a guide, you can :
- Continue to take part in teaching activities at your college or university (courses, language courses, internships, seminars, exams) to keep up the pace, stay in touch with other students, develop skills, and earn credits, all while waiting to enrol in a new course next term.
- Reorienting yourself during the year (only for 1rst year students) : until 15 February, you can change your enrolment without additional enrolment fees in order to continue your academic year within another course (cf. article 102 p. 44 of the Landscape Decree – this reorientation must be justified by the student and approved by the jury of the course of study to which he/she wishes to transfer).
- Setting sail, going abroad to learn a language, taking part in a volunteer project…
- Register with Forem and look for a job, follow a training course, do work placements, get help to look for a job.
- Take part in the RDV de la (ré)orientation, which will enable you to discover different types of training and careers that may be of interest to you. Find all the information by clicking here.
- participate in Rebond, a training and reorientation programme for :
-
- develop new study and/or career plans
- develop the skills needed to succeed in higher education
